Directors in Education
This Academic Leadership Development programme is an interactive programme of training, action learning sets and project work, designed specifically for our Directors in Education.
Through four comprehensive units, participants will explore a variety of topics and perspectives, deepening their understanding of their role and advancing their leadership journey.
This programme is aimed at those currently in an educational Director/Deputy Director role, i.e. (Deputy) Director of Education, Director of Scholarship, Director of Graduate Studies etc.

Content Overview
Each unit consists of a day-long core session and a half-day online workshop. Please scroll down for dates and times for upcoming cohorts.
Unit 1
Understanding and Leading in your role as Director in Education to deliver the QM Strategy 2030
In Unit 1 we will cover a range of topics to support you in getting the most from your role as a leader whilst delivering on our shared QM vision. Topics include:
- Your role as a Director in Education
- Translating strategy into action
- Regulatory landscape awareness
- Understanding QM policy and governance
Unit 2
Enhancing your Leadership Skills to deliver the QM Strategy 2030
In Unit 2 we will explore your personal leadership values and style to uncover your strengths and what energises you. Topics include:
- Leadership values and the Director role
- Influencing, communicating and giving feedback
- Self-awareness
- Decision making
Unit 3
Creating and Sharing Your Educational Vision & Leading Through Change
In Unit 3 we will focus on your leadership vision for your school and the challenges and opportunities that may influence its delivery. Topics include:
- Creating and sharing your educational vision
- Leading through educational change
- Financial management
Unit 4
Building Reputation and Stakeholder Engagement to deliver the QM Strategy 2030
In Unit 4 we will look at your role and school in the wider context of the university and in particular building reputation and stakeholder engagement for your school. Topics include:
- Building academic reputation
- Entrepreneurship
- Corageous Conversations
Strategic Projects
As part of the program, you will undertake a strategic project designed to create a meaningful impact on your educational priorities. Throughout the program, you will have opportunities to develop and refine your project, reflecting on its progress and outcomes.
At the close event, you will present your project's achievements and future plans to a panel of senior academics, fostering insightful discussion and feedback.
