This Research and Innovation Academic Leadership Development programme is an interactive programme of training, action learning sets and project work, designed specifically for senior QMUL research staff.

Through four comprehensive units, participants will explore a variety of topics and perspectives, deepening their understanding of their role and advancing their leadership journey.

This programme is aimed at Research Centre Leads, Directors of Research, Principal Investigators and similar.

Excelling in your role to deliver an ambitious research and innovation agenda

  • Leadership in a research context and key skillsets for senior research leaders.
  • Self-leadership and impact on the team.

Workshop: Working successfully with professional services

  • Key insights from university finance, governance and HR

Unit 2

Enhancing your leadership style and maximising the impact of your strengths

Part 1: Enhancing your leadership style

  • Leadership values and self-awareness.
  • Leadership styles and their adaptations for different situations.
  • Emotional intelligence.

Part 2: Maximising your leadership impact

  • Personal leadership and strengthening leadership impact.
  • Being intentional with your leadership and understanding your drivers.

Workshop: Coaching skills for senior research leaders

  • Coaching vs mentoring.
  • Basic coaching skills and using them in specific research-related situations.
  • Developing a coaching culture in your teams.

Unit 3

Leading and developing others to achieve their potential, Queen Mary Strategy goals and healthy research culture
