Jo Trelfa, Queen Mary Academy

I have been involved in mentoring, and reviewing applications, for Advance HE recognition, in higher education institutions since 2017 and have never stopped finding it an immense privilege!

Supporting colleagues, whether PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, early career educators, professional service colleagues, through to senior leaders of HE, to reflect on their practice and contributions to learning and teaching is a unique space. Working together as they create and craft their activities, knowledge and values in line with the Professional Standards Framework, or, reviewing submitted claims within a community of colleagues who are passionate about professional development in higher education, is inspiring!

But, more importantly of course, is the supportive role this plays in empowering education practices and seeing colleagues being recognised for their work. This is not just about getting an award, but working together to promote and foster a deep commitment to continuous improvement of pedagogical approaches and teaching and learning practices for the benefit of our students at Queen Mary University.

I look forward to many more years as mentor and reviewer!
