Melanie Crisfield, Doctoral College
I’ve been a mentor since being awarded my FHEA in 2018. I find it really rewarding to work with colleagues across the university and help them explore and evidence the value of their teaching and leadership contributions. So much of this work goes unacknowledged in HE and it’s important that we have the time to reflect on what we’ve done and celebrate our achievements. The fellowship applications – at all levels – give us the opportunity to stop and think about what we’ve done and the many positive ways this has impacted our students. Mentoring has also been a way for me to develop my own skills by understanding how my mentees work and what support they need, and adapting my practice to best meet those needs.
