Rehan Shah, School of Engineering and Material Science

Having recently achieved Senior Fellowship through QMA’s Teaching Recognition programme, I was delighted to be assigned a mentor to two applicants (for AFHEA and FHEA), giving me the opportunity to share the experiences, insights and best practices I had gained along my journey through to SFHEA with other colleagues. Through dedicated discussions and feedback on my mentees’ draft application, I was able to support them to frame their teaching reflections and experiences within a broader teaching philosophy and pedagogical context to align with the newly revamped framework of the UK PSF values.

Even though both my mentees came from very different disciplinary backgrounds, it was truly rewarding for me to enable them to reflect on their rationale for adopting innovative teaching methods and approaches. It was indeed heartening for me when they sent both sent me personal messages after they successfully achieved their Fellowship to thank me for my support throughout the process and for inspiring them in their path to becoming holistic educators.
