Growing the Research Culture Community at Queen Mary

Please join us on Wednesday 7th May from 12:45 to 3pm in the Maths Social Hub for an interactive workshop and discussion focused on how we can work together to foster a more positive and inclusive research culture as a community.

  • Listen to experts from Queen Mary talk about organisational and culture change
  • Learn about exciting research culture work underway at Queen Mary
  • Contribute to Queen Mary’s research culture strategy through table discussions

The workshop will be introduced by Professor Tim Warner, Dean for Postgraduate Research and Director of Doctoral College.

Professors Nelarine Cornelius and Mark Williams, both of our School of Business and Management and experts in organisational change, social justice, and inequity, will begin by addressing the sector-wide context in Higher Education and the challenges and opportunities that come with affecting cultural change in complex institutions.

Dr Thomas Roelleke, Senior Lecturer and Research Culture Lead in our School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, will talk about the work he and his colleagues are undertaking right now to foster a more positive research culture at school level.

The outcomes of the workshop will depend on the table discussions that will occur after the talks, but might include the formation of community of practice, feeding recommendations to local research culture leads to take forward, or the central Research Culture team progressing with specific actions where feasible.

Lunch, tea, coffee and will be provided. There is space to indicate dietary requirements in the application form.

Please register your interest to attend here: https://forms.office.com/e/kCE75ZRr5q by Thursday 1st May and indicate if there are any particular research culture issues that you’d like to feature in the table discussions. Any member of our PGR and staff community are welcome to attend. For reasons of space, attendance will be capped at 50 attendees and the form will close once we reach that cap.

If you have any questions or for further information, please email the Research Culture team at researchculture@qmul.ac.uk.
