Why Study Psychology at Queen Mary University of London?

We spoke to current Psychology students about what made them choose Queen Mary, and what their experience has been like so far.

Psychology is a subject that helps us understand ourselves and others, and at Queen Mary University of London, students explore it through a broad, interdisciplinary lens. The BSc Psychology programme, based in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, combines biological, cognitive, and social approaches to give students a well-rounded understanding of human behaviour. 

A Course That Offers Choice and Flexibility 

One of the things that stood out to students was the variety of modules on offer, particularly in the later years of the course. 

“I was drawn to the wide range of modules available, especially in third year. I’m really looking forward to options like Cyberpsychology and Nature, Nurture and Mental Health.” – Oliwia 

This flexibility allows students to shape their degree around their interests, whether that’s mental health, neuroscience, social behaviour, or emerging areas like digital psychology.

A Campus Community in London 

Queen Mary offers something unusual for a London university: a campus environment. Everything from accommodation to teaching spaces is within easy reach, creating a more connected student experience.

Studying Psychology with a Global Outlook

For students considering a year abroad, Queen Mary offers a wide range of partner universities. This was a key factor for some applicants when comparing Psychology programmes across the UK. 

“Other universities offering a year abroad didn’t have as many options, Queen Mary’s destinations were much more extensive.” – Ka Young 

A Diverse and Inclusive Environment

Several students mentioned how important diversity and inclusion were in their decision. Queen Mary’s student body brings together people from a wide range of backgrounds, and support for international students is strong. 

“I grew up in a conflict zone and saw the psychological impact on people around me, that’s what led me to this subject. As an international student, I was worried I wouldn’t fit in, but Queen Mary has been really welcoming.” – Fatimah 

Support Beyond the Classroom 

Support systems, academic, social, and personal, were also highlighted by students as a strength of the university.

“I took part in the Realising Opportunities programme, which Queen Mary is part of. It made the transition from sixth form to university easier, and I’ve found the support system here really strong.” – Atiyya
