My name is Cho Waai Man, and I am delighted to have graduated from Queen Mary University of London, with a First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance. I was also awarded the Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

I chose to study BSc Accounting and Finance as I knew I wanted to work in Accounting in the future. I liked the fact that the knowledge and skills taught on this course were more practical and could be directly transferred into real-world applications.

The School of Business and Management in particular, was extremely supportive with any issues I had throughout my time at Queen Mary, and I have very fond memories of meetings and lessons in the Bancroft Building. A particular lecturer who stood out to me was Dr Panos Panagiotopoulos. His passion for teaching and his enthusiasm, whenever I asked for any help with projects, made me look forward to every lecture and seminar with him.

Being a graduate of Queen Mary is an achievement that means a lot to me. I joined through clearing after falling short academically in my A-Levels, but I leave as an academic prize winner, a fact I am extremely proud of.

It is also a very personal achievement to me, since my Dad is also an alumnus of Queen Mary. He actually graduated 46 years ago, back when this institute was still just Queen Mary College, before it merged with Westfield College, Bart’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry! Being able to graduate from the same place he did means a lot to me.

I would not change a thing about my university experience, as the past three years have pushed me and helped me become the person I am now.

To any incoming first years, I would say that with enough hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
