More Than a Master's: My Queen Mary Experience
MSc Digital Marketing student Soham Bhattacharya shares his experience studying at the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary University of London.

Discovering more than just a degree
When I chose Queen Mary University of London, it was initially for its Russell Group prestige and central London location. But my time here has been far more than just pursuing a master's degree it’s been a gateway to countless opportunities, all made possible by the supportive and empowering environment Queen Mary offers.
A digital marketing degree that goes further
The MSc Digital Marketing programme delivers an ideal blend of academic depth and practical industry insight. Modules like AI for Business, Research Methods for Marketing, and Brand Storytelling didn’t just teach theory - they prepared me with the tools and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.
Opportunities beyond the curriculum
What truly shaped my experience was everything I got to explore beyond the curriculum because Queen Mary opened those doors for me.
I was elected course representative, giving me the chance to voice student concerns and work closely with staff. Through the School of Business and Management Mentoring Programme, I gained invaluable guidance that helped me align with my long-term career goals.
When I didn’t make the university football team, Queen Mary still gave me the space to lead - I created and captained Friends XI in the QM Social League.
Queen Mary also supported my entrepreneurial spirit: I launched my startup E-Closet, pitched it to industry professionals at QHack, and further developed it through the QIncubator, an eight-week immersive programme run by the university’s Careers & Enterprise team.
Real-world research experience
One of the most rewarding experiences was being selected for a Student Research Project Bursary Scheme on plant-based protein. It gave me the chance to explore the academic research side of marketing, develop new skills, and contribute to a real-world topic I care about - all thanks to Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management postgraduate team.
Confidence to lead and grow
Even student politics became part of my story when I ran for Vice President of Humanities and Social Sciences - a leap I wouldn’t have taken without the confidence this place instilled in me. At Queen Mary, I found the freedom to explore, the courage to try, and the support to keep growing.
