Project Title

The Nexus of Tourism Policy and the Sustainable Consumer Journey

Project Description

My project, The Nexus of Tourism Policy and the Sustainable Consumer Journey, examines how tourism policy and stakeholder engagement shape the design and effectiveness of sustainable consumer journeys. The first paper establishes a conceptual foundation through a systematic literature review, identifying four key themes that define the critical intersections between tourism policy and the consumer journey. It conceptualizes the sustainable consumer journey as a politically and morally influenced process, where choices are shaped not only by practical considerations but also by broader societal values and responsibilities. Building on this, the second paper explores the stakeholder engagement dimension empirically to uncover how consumer engagement strategies influence sustainability outcomes. Together, these studies position the sustainable consumer journey as both a policy and engagement-driven process, emphasizing that achieving long-term sustainable outcomes in tourism requires integrating deliberate policy interventions, innovative engagement strategies, and collaborative stakeholder participation across every touchpoint of the journey.
