Profile
My research explores notions of, and approaches to, domesticity in queer households from 1760-1840. It examines the ways in which gender identity, class, luxury, economic agency, sex work and criminality intersect with ideas of home and homemaking. I am looking at the life writing of Anne Lister, Elizabeth Steele, and Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby (the Ladies of Llangollen) as well as contemporary records of 'female husbands'. I am part of the London Eighteenth Century Reading Group.
