Profile

My research develops the original concept of ‘Space-Orientalism’, exploring the construction of an Orientalist ideological imaginary within contemporary sci-fi cinema and its role in U.S. national identity and myth. To highlight the contemporaneity of this project: it would sit at the nexus point of many timely intersecting dynamics, such as the rise of sci-fi universes and dystopian epics subject to more a pernicious evolution of the media industry, a post-BLM/post-Trump critical/populist audience culture and its predominantly online discourse on decolonised representational politics (of which I aim to use both cultural studies and digital humanities theoretical frameworks to focus on the ‘fandom’ social media space), and the way in which these elements contribute to the composite product of national U.S. myth.

By working on the intersection of U.S. politics and cultural production I hope to meaningfully contribute to existing scholarship on what makes mass and popular culture worthy of significant academic study.

I hold a BA in History and Politics from QMUL, as well as an MA in Postcolonial Studies from SOAS, and when I am not researching you can find me writing a script, acting, working on freelance articles, planning online video essays, or reading an epic high fantasy series!
