In this podcast we’ll hear about the communicative skills developed in two undergraduate modules: Principles of Trading with Dr Luigi Ventimiglia and his student Toufic and The History of Economic Thought with Dr Daniela Tavasci and her student Tirth.
We’ll hear how because the Principles of Trading module mirrors the communicative practices of City traders, this involves writing – a lot! Toufic shares how he felt about the challenge of writing weekly reports and how he developed a consistent writing rhythm plus the thought processes involved in creating a presentation for a client based on these reports.
Additionally, we’ll hear how The History of Economic Thought syllabus is co-created with students and how this demands independent thinking and decision making from students. Tirth discusses his quest for concision in giving a short presentation and how he learnt to read efficiently and effectively. Our participants are clear that reading enhances both written and oral communication. Finally, we’ll hear about how the communicative skills developed in these modules proved invaluable to both Toufic and Tirth in the workplace.
