In this podcast, we are joined by Alumna Elspeth and current master’s student Elizabeth, who share the communication skills they developed from their undergraduate film studies modules, Mapping Contemporary Cinema with Guy Westwell and Scriptwriting, Social Justice and Crime with Eugene Doyen.
We’ll hear how in the film industry, collaboration is imperative, and this means sharing, critiquing and building upon each other's creative ideas. in these modules, students share and critique each other’s work right from the initial brainstorming process. Elspeth and Elizabeth discuss how exposing it can feel to workshop ideas-in-progress, and how they learnt to give and take criticism productively.
The panel discuss the demands of editing for a real-world, rather than academic audience and we’ll hear how Elspeth and Elizabeth grew in confidence as the modules progressed. They also discuss how group work helped them harness their strengths, work on their weaknesses and learn from others. Finally, Elspeth will tell us how she’s using these skills in the workplace and Elizabeth in her master’s level studies.
