Get Spotted: German Literature

(video and more content coming soon - page under construction)

This podcast focuses on the communicative skills developed through a third-year undergraduate module entitled ‘Post-migrant Literature and Film After German Reunification’. In this module, students create a podcast about a piece of literature or a film of their choice. We’ll hear from third-year student Thasmitha about the skills she developed when making her podcast. Lucy, a QMUL German Studies alumni, now a  Social Media Executive at Autotrader, tells us how these skills are used in the workplace - most crucially, the ability to speak to your audience in a way that they understand best.

Dr Kohler explains wonderfully what it means to be interculturally competent and thus, a flexible, empathic communicator. We hear how a modern language degree goes further than developing a variety of transferable communication skills; doing a year abroad is in fact, transformative. Lucy spent a year in Germany and tells us how she went from feeling like a fish out of water to being accepted as a Berliner. We’ll hear how learning to interpret others on a deep level, a much sought-after skill in the workplace, of course takes time, but eventually becomes part of your repertoire and helps you build confidence and resilience.
