Economist Jaume Mora gives talk on Catalan produce as economic and cultural diplomacy

Last February, the Centre for Catalan Studies organised an event focusing on the cultural and economic value of the Mediterranean cuisine. Economist Jaume Mora gave a talk which was followed by a tasting of products from the Catalan-speaking territories.

Jaume began by commenting on the origins of the Mediterranean diet and farming from a historical perspective. He then focused on other aspects of the cuisine of the Catalan countries, highlighting the origins of certain products and why they are used both in food and as an important element in economic and cultural diplomacy. After this, there was time for a Q&A session and a tasting of a wide variety of Catalan products. These included coques de recapte (savoury and sweet pies), fuet, cheese, olives, and some dishes made with carob, as well as wine, all of which were very well received by attendees.
