The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee meets termly and comprises members from all areas within the School and all career stages from PhD students to the Head of School.
*The membership of the committee is currently under review.
*The School acknowledges that the term 'BAME' may not be entirely representative and can conflate diverse groups. It is used by the School as it aligns with terminology widely used by the University, allowing effective use of existing data.

I am a condensed matter physicist who could also be a computational chemist. I specialise in the theoretical developments and modelling of intermolecular interactions, and recently blend machine learning with my work on physical models.

Professor Alan Drew
Professor of Experimental Physics
Having survived a life threatening illness in 2020, which resulted in temporary blindness, deafness and paralysis below the neck, he returned to work a year after with permanent hidden disabilities. With this direct lived experience of returning to work, and a disabled railcard in his pocket, Alan became a board member of a charity in London whose role is to assist disabled people back into the workplace and advise employers make reasonable adjustments to the workplace to enable it. Since returning to work, he has made direct impact in the facilities and working practices at QMUL, and feels it is now the right time to be part of the EDI committee to further this contribution.
