Geography Building
Founded in 1894, the School of Geography is one of the oldest in the UK. A thriving student community, the School of Geography provides students with industry-leading laboratory equipment for physical geography and environmental science research, which are housed in the adjoining Francis Bancroft Building.
Facilities include:
- the River Lab, which offers unparalleled facilities aimed at understanding the behaviour of rivers.
- analytical suites, where students and researchers can analyse samples and explore a range of environmental problems and change.
- the Gas Chromatography and Elemental Analysis Lab – two Gas Chromatographs, which are used to analyse nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane and GC-FID for hydrocarbon analysis.
- the Nutrient Analysis and Water Chemistry Lab, equipped with a suite of high-precision analytical instruments which are used to analyse nutrients and chemistry in water samples.
- a Teaching Laboratory, fitted out with extensive bench space, fume hoods and sinks. This space contains a wide-range of equipment essential for geographical teaching and research activity.
