First held in 2011, the festival is a collaborative effort supported by staff, students, researchers, volunteers, and members of the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Barts Biomedical Research Centre Cardiovascular Public and Patient Advisory Group (PPAG). The event aims to introduce young people to the broad range of careers available in science and healthcare. This year’s programme included sessions on pharmacology degrees, the role of physiotherapists, the potential and pitfalls of AI in healthcare, and the importance of well-designed medical devices.

Festival organiser Jane Batchelor, said: “A key aim of the festival is to make young people aware of the variety of different health and science careers available to them, as well as science topics that may impact their future lives, whether or not they pursue science careers.”
