First meeting marks launch of Europe-wide Resolution Biology network coordinated by Queen Mary University of London

On Thursday 16 October 2026, the first management committee meeting of a new Europe-wide research consortium was held in Brussels at the offices of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), marking the official start of this ambitious initiative. The meeting was hosted by COST and is coordinated by Queen Mary University of London.

The consortium, announced in June 2025, is funded through a highly competitive COST grant and brings together researchers, industry experts, and public-sector partners from across Europe and beyond. Coordinated by Queen Mary, the network brings together more than 250 experts from over 50 institutions in 40 countries, reflecting the University’s growing leadership in European scientific collaboration.

The network focuses on the emerging field of resolution biology, which explores how the body resolves inflammation and restores tissue function to health. By bringing together experts from different fields, the network aims to foster multidisciplinary research and training to accelerate scientific discovery and clinical translation.

With the network now formally convened, partners will embark on a range of collaborative projects, joint training programmes, and knowledge-exchange activities designed to strengthen Europe’s research capacity in this field.

Professor Jesmond Dalli from Queen Mary University of London, said: "This network represents an exciting new chapter for the field of resolution biology. By uniting leading scientists, clinicians, industry partners, and patient representatives from across Europe, we are creating a unique platform to accelerate discovery and innovation — transforming how we understand and treat chronic inflammatory diseases. It’s a privilege to lead such a dynamic and collaborative community committed to advancing science that restores health rather than simply suppressing disease. As we embark on this journey, we warmly welcome new experts, stakeholders, and especially young researchers to join us in shaping the future of this rapidly evolving field."

The COST framework plays a pivotal role in supporting pan-European research networks, enabling scientists to connect, share expertise, and build capacity across disciplines and borders. Queen Mary’s coordination of this initiative underscores the University’s commitment to international collaboration and research excellence.
