I lead the Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health and I am a consultant old age psychiatrist in East London NHS Foundation Trust memory services.
I lead the Alzheimer’s Society Centre of Excellence for Independence at home, in which we are developing interventions to support people living with dementia at home; and the NIHR/ESRC APPLE-Tree programme (Active Prevention in People at risk of dementia: Lifestyle,bEhaviour change/Technology to REducE cognitive decline), investigating how lifestyle and behavioural change can prevent dementia in older people. I co-direct the NIHR Dementia and Neurodegenerative Policy Research Unit (DeNPRU-QM).
I supervise PhD students on topics related to ageing and dementia, funded by ESRC, Alzheimer’s Society, NIHR, Barts Charity and the UCL Dawes Centre for future crime. I am a member of the UK Cabinet Office Trial Advice Panel, which advises and supports evaluations of national government programmes and policies; and an NIHR Senior Investigator.

Research Interests:
My research expertise is in dementia and older people’s mental health, and my programmes include big data, qualitative and mixed methodologies.
