Profile

I obtained a BSc degree in 2005 from the Statistics Department, Capital University of Economics and Business (Beijing, China). I also hold an MSc degree in Economics from University of Edinburgh (2006) and a PhD degree in Health Economics from University of Aberdeen (2010). After my PhD, I worked at University of Aberdeen, Office of Health Economics (London, UK), and then Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in 2018 as a Senior Lecturer.

In addition to my teaching and research roles, I have held roles within and beyond QMUL. I am the Deputy Lead of the Health Economics and Policy Research Unit (QMUL), a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE (formerly the Higher Education Academy), and an Associate Editor of the Health and Quality of Life Outcomes.

Teaching

  • Health Economic Analyses Module (for MSc students): my role is module co-lead
  • Effective and Efficient Evaluation Module (for MSc students): my role is module lecturer

Research

Research Interests:

My research interests include quality of life research, economic evaluation alongside clinical trials, evaluation of health policy and medical intervention implementation. I am currently leading on funded projects in all three areas. Here are a few ongoing studies, as an example:

  • Project title: Developing a function to map Y-5L to Y-3L. Funding body: EuroQol Research Foundation. My role: Principal Investigator.
  • Project title: Evaluation of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the implementation of bedside electronic transfusion checks. Funding body: Barts Charity. My role: Principal Investigator.
  • Economic evaluation alongside a few Randomised Controlled Trials. Funding bodies: the National Institute for Health and Care Research, EU Horizon Europe, and Charities. My role: Co-Investigator.

Supervision

  • Second supervisor for Elizabeth Nally, funded by Barts Charity, PhD project titled “Health related quality of life (HRQoL), decision making and defining immune related adverse events (irAE) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) offered adjuvant immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI)”, project started from 11/2024, primary supervisor is Professor Thomas Powles at QMUL.
  • Primary supervisor for Yuanjin Zhang, funded by MRC-NIHR Trials Methodology Research Partnership, PhD project titled “Statistical methods for economic evaluation alongside stepped wedge cluster randomised controlled trial”, project started from 10/2023, second supervisor is Professor Richard Hooper at QMUL.
