Dr Noam Gur spoke at the University of Palermo about conflicts between law and state officials’ directives
Dr Gur presented the paper ‘Obedience to Law vs Obedience to State Officials’ at the workshop ‘Authority, Obedience, and Autonomy’, which was held at the University of Palermo on 6-7 March 2025.

The workshop—which forms part of the interdisciplinary project ‘ABIDE – Rule of Law and the Problem of Responsible Obedience’—brought together a series of experts on the topic, who discussed it from the perspectives of legal theory and moral psychology.
The ABIDE project aims to critically analyze the problems posed by obedience to unlawful, unreasonable, or unjust directives and orders, with a focus on military forces and penitentiary institutions.
