Maks Del Mar’s latest book chronicles the work of Scottish thinker Neil MacCormick

Neil MacCormick: A Life in Politics, Philosophy, and Law tells the story of one of one of the twentieth century’s most important legal philosophers and Scotland’s most influential public intellectuals.

A new book by Maksymilian Del Mar, Professor of Legal Theory and Legal Humanities at Queen Mary University of London, explores the political and philosophical life of Neil MacCormick, from his intensely political childhood, through to his involvement in Scottish Politics and his role as a Member of the European Parliament, helping to draft the European Constitution.

Published by Cambridge University Press, the book explores his entire works of political and legal theory, including his contributions on nationalism, post-sovereignty, and constitutional pluralism in Europe.

The book, along with an accompanying website with recordings of Neil MacCormick, is the result of a long-term research project funded by the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust.

The Professor Del Mar’s book was met with widespread praise from leading scholars. Professor Colin Kidd, University of St Andrew’s called it ‘A major landmark in modern Scottish intellectual history, and more broadly a significant contribution to jurisprudence.’ Professor Nicola Lacey, London School of Economics says: ‘Del Mar's authoritative account establishes Neil MacCormick as one of the leading public intellectuals of the twentieth century.’
