The School of Law celebrate 60 years

The School of Law marked its 60th Anniversary on Thursday 16 October with a celebratory event at the heart of our Mile End campus.

The Octagon filled with the audience listening to Keynote speaker, Lord Reed.

Staff, alumni and current students gathered in the Octagon to hear from keynote speakers Lord Reed, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, and Pen Moodz, spoken word poet, lawyer and School of Law alum. Lord Reed delivered an insightful speech on the history of legal education and the development of the School over the years, while Pen Moodz performed a powerful spoken word piece reflecting on his time as a student here.

The speeches were followed by a drinks and canapés reception, giving guests the opportunity to mingle and reconnect. Chair of the Anniversary Committee, Professor Alan Dignam encouraged attendees whether they were students, alumni or staff to make use of the opportunity to meet and share experiences and memories of what has made the School of Law a success over the 60 year history.

Head of Department, Professor Michael Harker said:

“It was a fantastic evening celebrating and reflecting on the growth and success of the School of Law. It was wonderful to see alumni, staff and current students connecting and sharing stories. Thank you to everyone who helped organise this event and to all those who joined us to celebrate. We are so grateful to everyone dedicated to the success of the School of Law.”
