Profile
Dr Maria Fanou is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in International Dispute Resolution at Queen Mary University of London, School of International Arbitration (SIA). She is also the Academic Director of the Comparative and International Dispute Resolution programme in London and the Acting Director of the LLM programme in Paris.
Dr Fanou is also a qualified lawyer (Dikigoros, Athens Bar Association) with more than 15 years of practical experience in international dispute resolution both acting independently and working at law firms in Athens, Brussels, and Paris. Prior to joining Queen Mary, she worked as a Référendaire at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Dr Fanou completed her PhD at the European University Institute in Florence, a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) and a Postgraduate Diploma (Master) in Civil Law at the University of Athens, as well as postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge (LLM), Harvard Law School (LLM, VR, Fulbright Schuman Scholar), and Queen Mary (LLM in International Dispute Resolution and Economic Law). She has conducted postdoctoral research at Queen Mary and the University of Zurich.

Postgraduate Teaching
Dr Fanou teaches on the LLM programme (Comparative and International Dispute Resolution) in London and in Paris.
Areas of teaching: international investment arbitration, international commercial arbitration, ADR, and advocacy skills.
