What influenced your decision to study at CCLS, Queen Mary?
I chose CCLS for its strong reputation in commercial law and its focus on emerging technologies. The faculty’s expertise and the opportunity to collaborate with scholars from around the world made it an ideal place to grow academically.
How did you find the teaching and learning?
The teaching at CCLS is both intellectually rigorous and supportive. Professors encourage independent research while always being accessible for guidance. The balance between theory and practical application made learning both challenging and rewarding.
What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?
The program’s flexibility allowed me to tailor my research to focus on law and technology, particularly AI and fairness. The opportunity to engage in seminars and interdisciplinary collaboration was a key highlight of my experience.
Did you combine modules across specialisations, where available, and if so, what were the advantages of this?
I combined technology law and anti-discrimination modules, which helped me gain a well-rounded perspective on the legal issues posed by emerging technologies. This approach enriched my research and gave me a broader understanding of the field.
What did you enjoy about living in London whilst studying at CCLS?
London offered an incredible mix of professional and cultural opportunities. The city’s diversity and vibrancy complemented my academic experience, and being in such a dynamic environment added depth to my studies.
Did you learn alongside and are you still in touch with colleagues from other legal jurisdictions around the world? How did this add to your experience?
My colleagues came from various legal systems, which broadened my perspective on global legal issues and enriched my research. These connections continue to be valuable in my career.
Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?
Absolutely. The expertise I gained in AI and technology law has opened doors to both academic and industry opportunities, allowing me to tackle real-world legal challenges.
What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?
My advice would be to take full advantage of the resources available at CCLS, including the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and peers from diverse backgrounds. Do not be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, and immerse yourself in interdisciplinary research.
