LAW6019 United Kingdom Human Rights Law
This module introduces students to the most important procedural features of the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) including the link between UK courts and the European Court of Human Rights, the meaning of ‘victim’ under the HRA and the process of determining a human rights violation including a study of proportionality and deference. The focus then shifts to the interpretation and application in UK law of three key human rights: protection of private life (privacy) (Article 8); freedom of religion and belief (Article 9); and freedom of expression (Article 10).
