Replacement degree certificate

Degree certificates are legal documents and we must ensure that there is only one in existence at any given time - We can not issue copies for third party submissions.

Whilst Registry Services are able to produce replacement degree certificates there are criteria attached for eligibility as they are legal documents. An instance of this is that a change of name; unless under exceptional circumstances such as a result of gender reassignment, does not mean we would retrospectively change a record and issue a new certificate for you. The replacement certificate will have the exact award information contained on your original certificate and will be produced on current certificate paper.

If your awarding body is University of London or you graduated before 2014, your replacement certificate will need to be requested from the University of London's website.

If your replacement certificate has not arrived

If your certificate was posted to the correct address and less than six months have passed since you were notified of your award

Please contact us to let us know that it hasn’t arrived and we will look into it for you. We can arrange for a free replacement to be sent if necessary (postage charges may be applicable).

If your certificate was posted to the correct address and more than six months have passed since you were notified of your award

You must let us know within six months if your certificate has not arrived. If six months or more have passed since you were notified of your award and you haven't contacted us to tell us, it is likely that you will need to purchase a replacement by contacting the AskQM Frontline Enquiry Team

If your certificate has been returned to the AskQM Frontline Enquiry Team

We will email you notify it has been returned to us and arrange a re-delivery. We will use the information provided to us by postal providers to determine if any additional postage fees or costs are necessary.

Criteria required for requesting a replacement certificate

We will only issue replacement degree certificates in the following circumstances*

  • If your certificate has been lost
  • If you have misplaced your certificate
  • If your degree certificate has been destroyed
  • If your certificate was never received†

*If your name has changed please review the name change criteria below to see if you can request a replacement certificate under exceptional circumstances

†In this circumstance we will look through our records and information provided to us to determine liability for issuing a replacement and associated costs

The issuance of any replacements are still subject to the AskQM's service level agreements, and will be processed under these guidelines. If you have any queries regarding this please contact AskQM Frontline Enquiry Team.

Your name on your certificate

Your full name is shown on your degree certificate, including any middle names. Please check that your name is correct on your record to avoid any misprints and you receiving a certificate you are unhappy with.

You can check how your name will appear on your certificate within the 'My Details' section of MySIS. We can only print your certificate in your 'Full name' and not your 'Known as' or 'Display name'.

We are required to record your full name on your record as it is shown on your official ID provided during enrolment, for example your passport. If your name is misspelled or something is missing, please contact the AskQM Frontline Enquiry Team promptly. We will review the ID we have on record for you and update your name if required ahead of your certificate being printed.

Unfortunately, if you do not let us know of any errors throughout your study and before you are awarded, your certificate may be printed in the incorrect name and there may be a delay with issuing you a replacement.

Once you have been awarded (this means your degree has been confirmed on your record and you have been sent an email notifying you of your award), it is not possible to amend your name unless listed as an exception under 'Graduates' on our Student Names webpage.

A degree certificate is a legal document and as such, Registry Services is only able to produce a replacement degree certificate if at least one of the eligibility criteria is met.

A replacement certificate will have the exact award information contained on your original certificate and will be produced on current certificate paper.
