Profile

Bio: I am interested in the molecular mechanisms underpinning environmental and developmental plasticity of marine invertebrates which support their resilience and adaption to global changes. I obtained my PhDs in Marine Ecology and Developmental Biology at, respectively, Genova (IT) and Sorbonne (Paris, FR) universities, which were followed by a postdoctoral Consolidator and ANR fellowships at the Laboratory of Developmental Biology of Villefranche-sur-mer (LBDV, IMEV, FR). My research activity has addressed the impact of distinct global change phenomena on the neuroendocrine system and nuclear receptor signalling of developing bivalve molluscs.

Project: At Queen Mary, I am part of the ‘Heads or Tails?’ project of Martin-Duran’s Lab that aims to characterise the mechanisms regulating temporal shifts in trunk formation of animal larvae and understand how they might explain the evolution of life cycles in Bilaterian organisms. By comparing polychaete annelids with distinct developmental modes through epigenomic, transcriptomic and phenotypic profiling, the project will shed light on the mechanisms producing developmental heterochronies and elucidate conserved and/or divergent regulatory mechanisms underpinning different timings of trunk formation in animal larvae.
