Tell us a bit about your previous role
I worked as Education Services Administrator for maternity cover in QMUL School of Engineering and Materials Science, before I now work in the same position in QMUL School of Mathematical Sciences. My role is to mainly provide administrative support to UG and PGT students throughout their lifecycle, from admissions, induction, module registration, assessments, student feedback and progression. I aim to help students by assisting them in terms of administrative advice, so that they can focus more on their busy academic and university life.
What attracted you to working at QM?
Word-of-mouth from previous colleagues and online platform indicate that QMUL is a good place to work with. I am still enjoying working here.
What do you find most interesting about your current role?
I like my current role that it offers me a great variety of learning opportunities, instead of only working on a single aspect of the services, it gives me a broader picture of the whole services so that I can know better on how to advise students.
What do you enjoy doing in your time?
Reading, watching films and listening to podcasts. Reading helps me a lot in finding answers. I particularly enjoy reading bibliographies, where you can know the whole life of a person. This is the same for watching films in the sense that although in reality I can only live in one life, but by reading and watching films, I can undergo different dramatic situations, different roles. It is just very intriguing.
Quick-fire round
- Favourite cuisine?
Hong Kong cuisine, like curry fish ball, fish siu mai, dim sum, cheong fun (rice noodle rolls), French toast, egg tarts and char siu bao.
- Favourite animal?
That’s tricky; as pets, it would be cats, because they are so contrasting in nature with their aloof independence, yet determined demand for snuggle comfort; for wildlife, most likely in the ocean - whales.
- Name a film that you would happily watch again
The Shawshank Redemption (1994), it is so powerful, memorable and inspirational. I feel that I really need to learn from Andy when I encounter difficulties that are beyond my control.
- Beach holiday or city?
City. I enjoy travelling in cities by taking public transportations very conveniently.
