Choice and Welfare: Beyond the Rational Agent
When: Monday, April 28, 2025, 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Where: Graduate Centre
About the Workshop
A substantial body of empirical evidence challenges the homo oeconomicus model of a rational agent. Human behavior is shaped by cognitive limitations, fairness concerns, social norms, reciprocity, identities, altruism, and more. While economic theory has made strides in incorporating these insights, many questions remain open.
Choice and Welfare: Beyond the Rational Agent is a one-day workshop that will feature eight selected speakers across four sessions, with a keynote speech given by Professor Peter J. Hammond (University of Warwick). There will be no parallel sessions.
The workshop will feature discussions across three key fields (as well as food in between).
✅ Choice Theory
✅ Decision Theory
✅ Experimental Economics
The workshop is organized by PhD students in the School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London, with support from the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking.
