Information Governance (DSPT)

This section covers Information Governance (IG) from the perspective of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).​

If you are asked to provide a DSPT ODS reference, this section will provide information on the different FMD DSPTs, which is the most relevant for your work (see flowchart), and who to contact (see table).

DSCC Responsibilities related to IG

Part of the DSCC remit is to understand and provide oversight for the implementation and and management of the IG requirements and compliance for the FMD. This work includes number of measures:  ​

• Understand and manage the IG requirements for the FMD, and to co-ordinate these in liaison with respective FMD DSPTs. ​
• Develop and implement a plan for IG across the Faculty, setting out timescales, infrastructure requirements and costs. ​
• Provide support and oversight to FMD IG Leads on the day-to-day implementation of IG across the faculty.
• Provide a central source of advice for all researchers to seek advice on matters of IG compliance. ​
• Act as a focal point for advice on and co-ordination of interactions with the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC/NIA) as necessary. ​
• Seek advice from FMD IG Leads, ITS and JRMO as required to ensure close liaison on IG matters.

What does affiliation with a FMD DSPT involve? 

Your affiliation with the specific FMD DSPT requires compliance with their requirements including relevant training and policy adherence. We ask that you please complete any  training required by the relevant FMD DSPT that you are using to keep your research data safe and secure- this is mandatory. Please discuss requirement with the relevant DSPT IG Lead (see table).
