Our aims are to

  • Inspire and enlist alumni support with activities such as student recruitment, enhancing the student experience (including retention and employability), building our reputation and maintaining our financial sustainability through donations and connections
  • Grow and sustain an engaged international donor community with long-lasting relationships to Queen Mary, which will increase overall philanthropic contributions from alumni and other donors, including trusts, foundations and businesses, to identified University priorities
  • Work collaboratively with Faculties, Schools, Institutes and other Professional Services teams across the University in support of Strategy 2030
Our vision is to develop a vibrant global community of engaged and active alumni and supporters who work with staff and students across the University to support the delivery of Strategy 2030.

Global Alumni Engagement

Global Alumni Engagement is a key strategic priority within Queen Mary University of London’s 2030 Strategy. The best way of working with our community of alumni is to form global alumni committees with alumni volunteers. This will enable us to increase our visibility in cities and help us form thriving alumni communities outside of London.

The Queen Mary Alumni Engagement Team supports a global community of over 240,000 alumni in more than 170 countries. We provide graduates with a lifelong connection to the University and each other, wherever they are based, to share experiences and expertise, and to inspire and offer encouragement to current students and alumni. This enables us to support the University with raising brand awareness, supporting global recruitment activity, creating opportunities for philanthropy and enhancing the student experience.

The committees will be in our top ten tier cities and would allow us to recruit volunteers into a formal structure. Volunteers would be managed and looked after by the Global Alumni Engagement Manager and would give us support and on the ground knowledge of the region, alumni and prospective students. This would in turn allow us to fulfil our aims of providing interesting, thought-provoking and compelling communications, events and opportunities for involvement, which attract alumni and donors to partner with the University in pursuit of shared interests. These shared interests include support for access to education for students from non-traditional backgrounds, the furtherance of globally important research and the impact it has, the enhancement of student employability, the development of a strong global network of alumni and the continuance of adding value to the lives of graduates of the University.

Global engagement is at the heart of everything we do at Queen Mary, from education to research, industrial and policy partnerships, and working with our global community of alumni and other stakeholders.
