Gift of Time
Opportunities for our alumni, who live all over the world and are leaders in a vast array of fields, to engage with our students to broaden their minds and employability opportunities.— Queen Mary University of London 2030 Strategy
Alumni Volunteers offer considerable support to the University, particularly by inspiring prospective students, current students and recent graduates, through activities including:
- Mentoring current students and recent graduates
- Speaking to prospective students about studying at Queen Mary and life in London
- Hosting Queen Mary students in their place of work as interns
- Giving careers talks
- Providing Alumni Profiles for our blog, Queen Mary web pages and promotional material
Some 425 alumni undertook 500+ volunteer activities in 2018-19 with numbers expected to be far in excess of that for 2019-20.
We know that many of our colleagues across the University actively engage alumni volunteers. Please do let the Alumni Engagement team know about any engagement you have with alumni by emailing alumni@qmul.ac.uk. We log all interactions with alumni on the alumni database to keep a record of engagement that will help us all with future activity.
A lot of the alumni volunteering activity is taking place via the Queen Mary Network. This is an online community platform, which allows alumni, students and staff to:
- Network with Queen Mary’s global community
- Reconnect with university friends/former classmates
- Join regional and special interest groups of alumni and current students
- Benefit from career expertise and advice through the Network’s ‘eMentor’ function
- Engage and encourage prospective students to choose Queen Mary through the ‘Ambassador’ function
You can join the Network via http://qmul.network.
Please help us promote the Network to your colleagues, alumni, current students and offer-holders, so that we can:
- Create a thriving online portal, which enables current students to reach out to alumni for careers advice and guidance
- Encourage alumni to 'give back' to their alma mater through 'light-touch' eMentoring, supporting and inspiring current students to make better informed career decisions
- Connect offer-holders with alumni to aid conversion
