Queen Mary Ambassador Opportunities

Queen Mary offers a range of paid ambassador opportunities that enable students to develop employability skills, meet new people, represent the University and share their experiences with others.

Types of Student Ambassador roles

Queen Mary offers different paid Student Ambassador opportunities managed by different teams across the University. Please check the information for each role carefully, as the roles, eligibility requirements and recruitment processes are separate.

  • Queen Mary Student Ambassador (Band A) – Student Recruitment & Widening Participation
  • Queen Mary Senior Ambassador (Band B) – Student Recruitment & Widening Participation
  • Queen Mary Student Careers Ambassador – Careers and Employability

 

Student Ambassador Scheme (Student Recruitment & Widening Participation)

Queen Mary Student Ambassadors (Band A) represent the University and its student body, supporting recruitment, widening participation and outreach activities on campus, off campus and online. A key part of the role is sharing your own experiences of Queen Mary and university life to engage, inform and support prospective students and their supporters. 

What could I do?

Opportunities are varied and may include:

  • Supporting Open Days, Offer Holder Days and other University events
  • Delivering campus tours and supporting school and college visits
  • Representing Queen Mary at higher education and UCAS fairs
  • Supporting widening participation and outreach activities
  • Engaging with prospective students, parents and carers
  • Supporting applicant enquiries, online events, content creation and social media

Flexible paid work

The role is paid at £14.98 per hour, plus holiday pay with opportunities available throughout the year. There are no guaranteed hours – you choose which opportunities to apply for, making it easy to fit work around your studies.

You'll receive full training and opportunities to develop valuable employability skills including communication, teamwork, public speaking and customer service.

Who can apply?

The role is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students registered at Queen Mary during 2026–27, including new students starting in September 2026. We particularly encourage and prioritise applications from first-year students, giving you the opportunity to develop within the scheme throughout your time at Queen Mary.

No previous Student Ambassador or work experience is required.

Senior Ambassador  

Your development doesn't stop when you become a Student Ambassador (Band A). After gaining experience in the role, eligible continuing ambassadors can apply to become a Senior Ambassador (Band B).

Senior Ambassadors take on additional responsibilities including delivering workshops and presentations, supporting events and other ambassadors, and contributing to the development and evaluation of activities.

You'll receive additional training and development opportunities to build your leadership, public speaking, and facilitation skills, with eligible activity also recognised on your HEAR transcript.

Student Careers Ambassador 

Careers and Employability recruit Student Careers Ambassadors each year in the spring term to start in post the following academic year.

Who can apply?

Applications are welcome from any undergraduate or postgraduate taught students, except those in their final year.

This paid role is exclusively available to Queen Mary students where you will act as an advocate to help increase student engagement and awareness of Queen Mary Careers and Enterprise across the university.

Tasks include:

  • Providing students advice on their CV and signposting to Careers programmes and services
  • Supporting at Careers events, including fairs and panels
  • Working on the front desk and responding to a range of student enquiries
  • Creating and posting social media content
  • Writing articles and reports on visits, events and careers information
  • Project work to support the Careers team, using your expertise as a current QM student

The role is part-time, flexible, and largely on-campus, designed to fit around your study commitments. It is 10 hours per week on average for 30 weeks throughout the academic term time.
