Graduate jobs
Tackling the graduate jobs market can feel daunting. But Queen Mary has a great track record in graduate employment as well as plenty of advice and guidance on making that leap from study to employment.
Will I be able to get a job with my degree?
Yes! According to the 2022/23 Graduate Outcomes survey, 89% of Queen Mary graduates are in work or further study 15 months after graduating. Queen Mary is ranked 17th in the UK for graduate recruitment (High Fliers Research 2025) and 11th in the University Compare Employability Rankings 2026. And nearly 80% of our graduates enter what is called ‘high-skilled’ or what you might call ‘professional’ work.
Many more students are using AI to complete job application forms, so it may take you a little longer, but you will get there. If you haven’t yet used our Careers Service to help you on your career journey, now would be a good time to do so. In fact, we encourage you to use us for up to three years after graduation.
Since then, David has continued to support me with interview preparation, and I now feel much more confident and aligned with a career path I am genuinely passionate about.
Where do Queen Mary graduates find work?
Our graduates find work across diverse sectors including law, finance, consulting, technology, health, and the creative industries.
Many students are entrepreneurial and start businesses or develop their passions alongside work and/or further study. To find out more about entrepreneurship at Queen Mary, join the QUEST newsletter to get you started. If unsure, ask about the QHack programme for early-stage entrepreneurs.
Remember that graduates start work in all kinds of roles in all kinds of sectors. There is no one route and no “perfect job”. We all need to start somewhere. Be proud of who you are and what you can contribute to your family, to your community, and to the world.
Check the jobs board on CareerHub for current opportunities to apply to and sign up to the newsletter to be the first to hear of new posts.

Speculative applications
Up to 60% of jobs never get advertised. Contacting employers directly to ask about work opportunities can be an effective method of getting work. Success levels are even greater if you have already built up contact with the organisation through networking. Use this guide to help you through the process.
I’ve been applying for jobs but haven’t been successful so far. What am I doing wrong?
Don’t see it as “wrong”. See it as a learning opportunity.
