What is QMentoring?
QMentoring is a structured mentoring programme where you’ll be matched with a professional mentor who can support your career development.
When you apply, you can choose whether you’d prefer to be matched based on your degree subject or a particular industry or role you’re interested in.
Together with your mentor, you’ll explore –
- Career pathways and job roles.
- Industry insights and workplace culture.
- How to build experience and professional networks.
- Applications, CVs and interviews.
- Your strengths, motivations and career goals.
QMentoring is part of the Aspire career development programme, which supports students from under‑represented backgrounds to progress into graduate employment or further study.

The next round of the QMentoring programme will run from November 2026 to May 2027.

Who can apply?

The programme supports students from under‑represented backgrounds in higher education. If you are in receipt of the Queen Bursary, your application will be prioritised, but all eligible students are encouraged to apply.
In addition, and in line with the University’s current Access and Participation Plan, we also prioritise applications from students who identify as Asian British Bangladeshi and who are studying in the School of Arts or the School of Politics and International Relations.
How the programme works
- Apply online during the application window.
- Attend an induction session.
- Be matched with a professional mentor.
- Meet with your mentor at least six times (online or in person).
- Complete a short evaluation at the end of the programme.
Mentoring relationships typically run over six months, giving you time to build rapport, reflect, and make progress.
Who are the mentors?
Mentors are professionals from a wide range of sectors, many of whom are members of Queen Mary’s alumni community. Sectors include –
- Business and finance.
- Law.
- Healthcare.
- Technology.
- Public and third sector organisations.
- Creative industries.
Mentors have studied a wide variety of degree subjects and taken different career paths, helping students see the range of possibilities open to them.
All mentors volunteer their time and receive guidance on how to support students effectively.

I found the experience extremely valuable. I gained a clearer understanding of the possible career routes I could take after university, as well as the steps I can take alongside my degree to strengthen my employability.— Ali
