Ways to champion accessibility
There are many different ways you can champion accessibility within your team. Below are some examples, ranging from quick to more hands-on actions.
1. Tell your team about available resources
One easy way to champion accessibility within your team is to share resources during meetings or on Teams chats.
Less than half of staff members know where to find resources related to accessibility, so making sure that everybody knows about our Accessibility Hub is a great first step.
2. Signpost colleagues to specific guidance
You might like to share specific guidance with colleagues when you think they will find it useful.
Maybe you spot that content they have created could be made more accessible, or maybe you know that they often create a certain type of content (Eg social media posts) and so might find guidance around that particularly topic helpful.
3. Hold information sessions for your team
If you would like to be more hands-on in supporting your colleagues, you might like to hold information or drop-in sessions within your team.
If this is something that interests you, feel free to get in touch with Joe Saxon (j.saxon@qmul.ac.uk) who can help you put something together.
4. Offer to be involved in content projects
Getting involved with your team's content projects from the start is a great way to ensure accessibility is taken into consideration.
Speak to your line manager or those managing content projects within your team to see how you can help. If you would like help facilitating those conversations, you can reach out to Joe Saxon (j.saxon@qmul.ac.uk).
