Best-in-class community engagement

Queen Mary is the sector-leader in how we integrate public engagement into our research, innovation and teaching, committed to engaging and collaborating with communities in East London and the globe.

Best-in-class community engagement

Leading the way in social inclusion

  • Our work was recognised by the award of the Platinum Engage Watermark for Public Engagement by the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement in 2021, the first award made at this level.
  • The Civic University Agreement (CUA), launched in 2022, formalises our commitment to maximising our place-based impact in East London.
  • By working in equitable partnership with our communities, we strengthen and enhance our research activities - from promoting gender equality through Nepalese street art to campaigning on nitrous oxide. Our public engagement makes our work more impactful and enables significnat and sustainable change.

East London Civic Action Network

  • The East London Civic Action Network is a new network to build health equity in East London. The network will highlight the breadth of civic work taking place across Queen Mary, and draws from over 100 participants from faith communities, voluntary and community organisations, local authorities, NHS teams, elected leaders, and Queen Mary staff and researchers.
  • Our stakeholders will meet and strategise action around shared challenges and objectives in, with, and for East London linked to Queen Mary’s Civic University Agreement.
