Spelling mistakes

Typos and spelling mistakes can make your content look unprofessional and may reduce trust in your website. Use this guide to identify and resolve spelling alerts reported by Silktide.

What causes spelling mistake alerts?

Silktide highlights words that it believes may be misspelled. These alerts can be caused by:

  • Genuine spelling mistakes or typing errors
  • Names of people, places or organisations
  • Technical or subject-specific terminology
  • Words in languages other than English

Not every alert will be an error, so it's important to review each one before making changes.

How to fix spelling mistakes

A genuine spelling mistake

The issue: A word on your page has been misspelled.

The fix: Correct the spelling in your CMS and republish the page.

Names, specialist terms or words in another language

The issue: Silktide has flagged a word that is correct but is not recognised by its dictionary. This may be a proper name, technical term, acronym, or a word in another language.

The fix: Review the alert to confirm the spelling is correct. If it is, click Learn in Silktide to add the word to the dictionary or choose to ignore the alert.

Good practice

Before dismissing a spelling alert, always check that the word is correct and appropriate for your audience. Regularly reviewing spelling issues helps maintain the quality, credibility and accessibility of your content.
