When to get in touch with our team
Get in touch with the comms team as soon as you know you are doing something newsworthy.
For example, as soon as a paper is accepted to a journal, or at the outline planning stages of an event, or even thinking ahead to a massive event in your area, like a General Election for politics professors. We are happy to discuss ideas long ahead of time and feed into shaping your media pitch/copy.
As soon as you are approached by the media
Please copy press@qmul.ac.uk in so we know about it! It doesn’t matter if the media work didn’t come in via the press office, it’s useful for us to understand how to support you in future.
A minimum of two weeks to put together a press release
It takes at least two weeks to put together, sign off and issue a press release, and longer to pitch or place things with specialist publications. BBC forward planning often starts months, even years ahead for commissioning special programmes!
We will usually come back to you with a series of questions, including whether there are any reputation considerations.
When is it too late to get in touch?
If the paper is being published next week or the event is happening at the weekend, we still want to know, as we will be able to share via digital and social media channels.
We look forward to working with you!
Email press@qmul.ac.uk with as much detail as possible (you can ask for our template comms plan if appropriate, but at least:
- What it is
- When it’s happening
- Project/ event/ paper objectives
